David Meaders was born in Gainesville, GA on July 1st, 1951 and is the youngest child of Reggie and Flossie Meaders. His fascination with clay began early at his Grandfather Cheever Meader’s shop where David spend weekends and after school afternoons. (That wasn’t always easy. Once, when the school bus driver wouldn’t stop on direction from his mother, David threatened to jump out the window. After that, the shop was a planned stop.)
While his Grandfather and Grandmother showed him the basics of pottery making, David lost interest as a teenager and later tried welding, logging, raising chickens, and truck driving before seeing pottery as his true calling in 1982. He hasn’t looked back once.
David gives his uncle Edwin or "Nub" Meaders credit for sharpening his skills as an adult. They worked together for several years, and David later took over his more famous uncle Lanier’s shop at the old home place from 1992 until 1996.  Today David works from his own shop along with his wife Anita, an excellent potter in her own right. They married in 1978 and although they have no children, an Old English Mastiff named Rocky seems to fill the void. From time to time David works with his mother and father on special pieces and projects. David is currently building a new wood kiln and plans to soon switch back completely to the traditional wood firing method.
