Edwin Meaders

Born in 1921, Edwin Meaders, or “Nub” as he is most often called, was the youngest son of Cheever and Arie Meaders. Like his brothers, he learned to turn at an early age in the family pottery shop in White County.

Edwin was perhaps most influenced by his mother’s work, especially her chickens. When he turned to pottery full time about 1980, he evolved his own style of chickens and since then, his name has become synonymous with roosters. And both the early green birds and the later blue models have become highly sought by collectors the world over.

But Edwin is also very talented at making vases and other items, which are often decorated in a style that very much resembles that of his mother’s.

At age 82, Edwin still works almost daily in his White County pottery shop.
