A young Flossie Thomas of Hall County, GA became the young bride of Reggie Meaders in 1942, just as her new husband shipped off to war. Flossie spent a lot of time in and around her in-law’s (Cheever and Arie Meaders) shop and was quickly fascinated by the craft of pottery.
But it wasn’t until 1985 when Reggie retired and built his own shop that she got the chance to try her hand at making pottery. She quickly found her own unique style and form, and today, her face jugs and other unique pieces are scattered throughout the world. Flossie is especially proud of her jugs that have four different faces on them, as well as a small series of jugs she calls, "Meaders Kids."
Flossie and Reggie had three children, Gloria, Lamar and David. David and his wife Anita live nearby and are noted potters in their own right. |
