Ruby Meaders is the youngest child of Cheever and Arie Meaders. She grew up around the family pottery shop on Mossy Creek in White County, GA, and learned much about the craft as a small child. Although being a wife and mother kept her from spending much time at the wheel as an adult, she was always drawn back to the clay. Especially as she watched her brothers Lanier, John and Edwin continue the art after her parents had passed away.
In 1999, Ruby set up her own wheel and started turning out pottery that many say resembles that of her mother Arie. Ruby quickly became known for her chickens, doves, pigs and the occasional face jug that she finishes in several different colored glazes.
One of Ruby’s two grown children, Stanley, has recently started carrying on the family tradition under his mother’s watchful eye. |
